Where Were the Signs?

 

“He was a man that I trusted — someone I thought would have my back for the rest of my life. How did I miss the signs?”

Many women have asked themselves that same question. Some of my dearest friends have come to me heartbroken, wondering how the person they loved changed so drastically. They describe men who were once attentive, loving, and committed — until suddenly they weren’t. Some became distant. Some walked away. Others betrayed their vows. The pain of that kind of shift cuts deep, especially when it seems to have come out of nowhere. You’re left stunned. Replaying the past, you ask yourself repeatedly if there were warning signs you somehow overlooked.

Were there signs? And if there were, why didn’t you recognize them?

2 Corinthians 4:4 (NLT) gives us a clue: “Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.” Blinding the mind is one of the enemy’s oldest tactics. He uses distraction and deception to shift our focus away from the light of Christ — even among believers if we’re not fully armored in God’s truth. The goal is simple: to divide what God has joined and to weaken what was meant to be strong.

The Enemy’s Distraction

Through every relationship that God ordains, His desire is unity — a divine cord of love that strengthens generations. The devil despises that unity. He will do whatever he can to cut the cord of connection between husband and wife, or even between two people who were meant to reflect the love of Christ. God doesn’t want us to be ignorant of this.

Our Heavenly Father never changes, and His standards never shift. He has designed everything in the universe to respond favorably to His Word. So when we take our eyes off Jesus, we open the door for things to unravel. Matthew 6:33 (NLT) reminds us, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.” When we put anything else above Him — even love, even marriage — blessings begin to subtract.

But this truth isn’t meant to condemn us. It’s meant to realign us. It’s a loving reminder of how closely we must guard our relationship with our Heavenly Father.

When Marriage Feels Misaligned

Even within marriage, we can sometimes miss the signs because our hearts and minds are out of alignment with the level of spiritual growth and maturity should be achieving. It’s possible that your spouse is reacting to a change in you that you haven’t noticed. When we become too comfortable, prayer slips. Meditation becomes occasional. Our communion with God weakens. And what happens in the spiritual often mirrors in the natural. When we neglect our relationship with the Father, the intimacy within our marriage can start to unravel too. That strong cord that once held firm begins to fray.

The good news is, the solution is always in Jesus Christ. If you’ve lost sight of unity, refocus your heart. Seek God diligently in prayer. Ask Him to restore the foundation and reweave the cord of love through the power of His Spirit.

Sometimes the signs were there — we just couldn’t see them. But even when blindness, pain, or distraction caused us to miss what God was showing us, His grace still waits to restore. God can open our eyes again. He can realign hearts that have drifted and bring healing where hurt once lived. ■

Holding On When Faith Feels Weak

 

There are moments when faith doesn’t feel strong at all. You know God is real, and you trust Him — but life has been coming at you from all sides, and honestly, it’s wearing you out. You’ve prayed, you’ve believed, and yet things haven’t moved the way you hoped. Somewhere in the middle of waiting, your faith feels thin — like you’re holding on by a thread.

But even in that place, God hasn’t gone anywhere. He’s still steady. He’s still faithful, and His Word doesn’t lose power just because our strength is running low. He’s the same God who spoke peace into storms, who lifted the brokenhearted, and who still calls your name when you feel unseen.

We need to remember that faith isn’t about pretending that everything’s fine. It’s about trusting that even when you can’t see what our Heavenly Father is doing, He’s still working behind the scenes, causing all things to work together for our good as Romans 8:28 tells us. And that’s why we shouldn’t ever let go or give in. Even when faith feels weak, God will meet you right there — in the middle of all that uncertainty, and He’ll remind you that He hasn’t forgotten a single thing He promised.

A Battle for the Abundant Life

Jesus said in John 10:10 (NKJV), “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” That’s not just a comforting verse — it’s a reality check. There’s a fight going on over your peace, your joy, your mind, and everything good that God placed in your life.

The enemy’s goal is to wear you down and make you believe that what Jesus promised isn’t real for you. But He didn’t come in vain. The life He offers — that more than abundant life — is still yours. It’s still available. And sometimes, the way we reach for it isn’t by trying to be strong, but by standing still in faith and resisting the enemy’s attempt to make our faith small.

Not by Your Might

If this season has taught us anything, it’s that we can’t fight spiritual battles with human strength. There’s a darkness in this world that can’t be reasoned with, and trying to handle it on our own will only leave us drained and defeated. God never asked us to go toe-to-toe with the enemy using our own weapons. He told us to stand — clothed in His armor, covered in His truth, and strengthened by His Spirit. Ephesians 6:11–13 (NLT) reminds us to “put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.” We’re not fighting people, we’re standing against evil influences that work through people and circumstances — but our victory doesn’t come from swinging harder. It comes from staying rooted in what God already finished through Jesus Christ.

We don’t have to prove anything to the enemy. The battle was already won at the cross. What God asks of us is to stand — steady, prayerful, and anchored in His Word — even when the storm looks like it’s winning. Because the truth is, it isn’t.

When Faith Feels Weak, Stand Anyway

When everything around you feels unstable, remember this — God’s Word hasn’t moved. His promises don’t expire. His faithfulness doesn’t take breaks. You may not feel like a warrior right now, but standing in faith isn’t about feelings — it’s about holding on to truth when emotions try to lie to you. And the truth is, you are more than a conqueror through Christ (Romans 8:37). The same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives inside you. That means no matter how small your faith feels, it’s still enough to move mountains — because it’s anchored in Him.

Isaiah 41:10 (NLT) reminds us, “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” So if it feels like your faith is slipping, just stand. Call on His powerful name and pray through the tears. Keep showing up in His presence, even when you don’t have the words. God’s strength will meet you there. Because even when your faith feels weak, His hold on you never loosens. ■

God Is Your Place of Safety

 

Psalm 91:1 (NLT) says, “Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” God’s presence rules over everything—nothing in creation escapes His sight or control. But resting in His shadow isn’t about geography; it’s about relationship. It’s the promise for those who stay close enough to trust His covering and live beneath His strength.

To live in the shelter of the Most High is to dwell beneath divine covering. This is a place where fear loses its voice and rest becomes more than sleep. It’s a closeness, a quiet confidence that no matter what storms rage around us, we’re hidden in the presence of God Himself. To rest in His shadow means we’re not standing in our own strength, but under His. We’re protected, covered, and completely surrounded by His peace.

The world around us is doing the most—pulling out all the stops to grab our attention, tempting us to step out from under His covering with fear, distraction, or self-reliance. But to stay in God’s shelter, we must choose to remain close to Him through faith and obedience. We have to trust God’s Word and walk in His ways. That’s how we stay aligned with His protection. Psalm 91:2 (NLT) declares, “This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.” Those who make that declaration live differently—they rest in God even in chaos, because their peace isn’t built on the world’s instability, but on His unshakable presence.

When it comes to who we are and who we’re becoming, God’s goals are often different from ours. He sees what we can’t—our past, our present, and our future—all woven together in His perfect plan. That’s why we can rest in His safety. Nothing in our lives is random or unseen.

Ephesians 1:10 (NLT) reminds us, “And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth.” Even when it doesn’t look like it, every moment of every day is moving us closer to God’s ultimate purpose. Everything—both in heaven and on earth, from the smallest detail to the greatest event—is being brought together under the authority of Jesus Christ.

That’s why we can trust Him completely. The same God who shelters us is also orchestrating all things toward His divine order. And that truth alone should quiet every anxious thought.

No matter what’s happening around you, remember this—God is your place of safety. When life feels uncertain, His plan is still unfolding. When the world shakes, His promises remain steady. And when your heart feels weary, His presence becomes the shelter your soul longs for. He is not only covering you; He’s carrying you toward His purpose. So rest in Him. Trust His timing. Keep living under the shadow of the Almighty, where no fear can stand and no storm can move you. Because the safest place you’ll ever be isn’t a physical space—it’s the steady covering of God’s presence and the unbreakable security of His love. ■
