Dealing with Sadness and Uncertainty

When the World Shakes and the Soul Feels It

Shakespeare once wrote, “To thine own self be true.” He may not have been speaking from a biblical lens, but that line still carries weight, because if we can’t be real with ourselves, we might miss an opportunity for God’s healing and deliverance. I’ve lived long enough to learn that honesty with our Heavenly Father always leads to growth, even when it hurts. And in a season like this, when the world is shaking and nothing feels certain, that kind of honesty matters more than ever.

The truth is never punishment—it’s the wake-up call our souls need. The world has been running on empty for far too long, and now this shaking that everyone’s talking about might feel uncomfortable, but it’s exposing what’s real. And it’s the same with us. When everything you thought was solid begins to fall apart, what’s inside of you rises to the surface. For some, it’s faith. For others, it’s fear. And for many, it’s sadness that’s been quietly sitting in the soul, waiting for a moment like this to be faced and finally healed.

The Hole Only God Can Fill

Some of us are heartbroken because life didn’t turn out the way we hoped. We prayed, we believed, and still something feels missing. There’s a hole that no earthly relationship, achievement, or distraction can fill. Often that hole began when love failed us—when someone who should’ve protected us didn’t, or when life disappointed us in ways we still can’t explain. But the Word tells us in Psalm 34:18 (NLT), “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.” God isn’t distant from your pain—He’s right there in it with you, and He’s ready to restore what life has tried to break.

Our lives were meant to be built on love. 1 John 4:8 (NLT) says, “But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” Love isn’t just something God does—it’s who He is. You were created from that love, and everything good in you flows from it. The more we drift from trusting that love—God’s love, the emptier we feel. But when we draw close to Christ, His love fills the gaps in our soul that nothing else can reach.

Peace in the Shaking

So yes—be honest about what hurts. Acknowledge the sadness. But don’t live there. Philippians 4:6–7 (NLT) reminds us, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.” That peace is what steadies us when the world shakes.

You don’t have to have it all together, but you can and should trust the One who holds it all together. Let Him be your strong tower, your healer, and your anchor in uncertainty. His love is the one thing that will never fall apart—and when you rest in that truth, neither will you. ■

Seek the Lord While You Can

Isaiah 55: 6-7(NLT)
“Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near. Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong. Let them turn to the Lord that he may have mercy on them. Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously.”

No one would argue that a broken heart is one of the hardest pains to overcome. When it happens, all you can think about is finding something—anything—to make it stop so you don’t ever have to feel that kind of hurt again. I remember after my first real heartbreak; I didn’t want to hear a single thing about meeting another man. I avoided relationships like they were the plague. Deep down, I knew I couldn’t stay in solitude forever, but I was scared. The thought of taking another chance, of risking my heart being broken again, was almost too much for my mind to handle.

“Leave it in God’s Hands baby He’ll fix it.” Those are the words my grandmother gave to me when I was fourteen years old after my high-school crush told me he didn’t have the same feelings for me as I did for him. Oh, I was crushed. I cried for weeks. While the pain cuts just as deep when we’re younger as it does in our adult years, the layers built by life are thicker and more entrenched when we’re older. We carry memories, disappointments, and fears that make it harder to release the hurt and trust again. But the truth is, what Grandma told me then still stands today—God really can fix what’s broken.

I dove into God’s Word for comfort and solace because I knew it was the only truth that could soothe my heart and bring peace to my soul. The same God who comforted me as a heartbroken teenager is the same one who restores peace to an adult soul weary from life’s letdowns. Healing may not come overnight, but when we place our hearts in His hands, He begins to mend what we can’t.

God’s love is the only remedy for that kind of raw pain—the kind that cuts deep and leaves your heart feeling exposed. Psalm 34:19 (NLT) reminds us that “The Lord helps those who are crushed in spirit. He is close to those whose hearts are broken.” This is tremendously comforting, but it’s also so much more than that. It’s a promise that Christ draws near to us in our sorrow. He doesn’t stand at a distance watching; He meets us where we are, offering healing, peace, and hope.

But I know firsthand that sometimes we miss Him right in the middle of our pain—mostly because we don’t know where to look. We expect God to show up in a certain way—big, dramatic, immediate—the kind of answer that fixes everything at once. And when He doesn’t, it’s easy to feel like He’s nowhere to be found. But the truth is, God often moves quietly. He works in steady, unseen ways—nudging our hearts toward peace when anxiety tries to take over, dropping wisdom into our thoughts when we least expect it, or sending encouragement through people and moments we almost overlook. His timing is always perfect, even when it makes no sense to us.

In those quiet seasons, when it feels like God is silent or slow to respond, He’s actually inviting us closer. He wants us to seek Him—not just for what He can do, but for who He is. Jeremiah 29:13 (NLT) says, “If you look for Me wholeheartedly, you will find Me.” That’s His promise. Even when healing feels slow and answers seem distant, His presence is near for those who reach for Him. So don’t wait for the pain to pass or the circumstances to change—seek Him now. Because in His presence, what was shattered starts to heal, what was restless finds peace, and what felt lost begins to live again. ■

Bigger Fights and Even Bigger Victories

When the Enemy Comes Hard, God Raises Us Higher

Sometimes we forget we’ve got a real enemy out here. 1 Peter 5:8 (NLT) tells us plain:
“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” Too often, we don’t take that seriously. We let our guard down, and the enemy creeps in, stealing peace, joy, relationships—anything precious he can get his hands on. Some of us have learned the hard way, losing battles we didn’t even realize we were in. The truth is, it’s a mistake to underestimate the devil and think he won’t use people or circumstances to trip us up. God already warned us to stay alert. That means living with eyes wide open, rooted in His Word, so our spiritual sight, hearing, and strength stay sharp.

David’s Faith in the Face of a Giant

Take David, for example. He was just a boy facing down a giant who terrified grown men. By all the odds, he should’ve been crushed. But David wasn’t banking on odds—he was banking on God. He stepped out there with nothing but a sling, a stone, and an unshakable confidence that God would show up. And He did.

That moment wasn’t just about Goliath falling. It was training ground. That victory stretched David’s faith and prepared him for bigger battles down the road. By the time he became king, David already knew—if God delivered me then, He’ll deliver me again. And that’s where we’ve got to land too. Humility before God kept David covered, and humility will keep us covered as well.

When Trouble Knocks Us Down

As many of us have experienced, life can blindside you, and do so when you least expect it. And sometimes, it’s not just one thing, but darts can fly from several different directions. It can feel like the ground is ripped out from under our feet. We get devastated, and too often, we get stuck staring at the problem instead of looking to God. In Psalm 73:26 (NLT), David gives us a lifeline that sets our sights on the eternal love and power of our Heavenly Father: “My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.”

That’s the reminder we need: everything in this life is temporary, but God’s strength is eternal. Through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we’ve been given access to every spiritual blessing. And the Word shows us not to get distracted by what’s happening to the left or the right, but to keep our eyes fixed on the Father. Isaiah 40:31 (NLT) tells us, “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” That’s what God does when we lean on Him instead of our own strength.

Faith Is the Engine

Troubles have a way of draining us dry, leaving us stuck in questions we can’t answer and pain we can’t shake. The enemy whispers that God has forgotten, that maybe we’re on our own this time. But those lies don’t get the last word—because faith refuses to die when life gets hard.

Faith is the engine. It’s what keeps you pressing forward when fear is screaming at us to turn back. It’s what says “God’s got me” even when nothing around you looks like it. Hebrews 11:1 (NLT) tells us, “Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.” Faith is relentless, steady, and unshakable, not because of us but because of the God we’re trusting. It doesn’t wait for the finish line to celebrate—it fuels us in the middle of the storm, driving us toward the victory God already promised.

Bigger Victories

Every battle you face is not just about the moment—it’s about the making of you. The enemy comes hard because he knows what’s inside of you is even greater. But don’t miss this: every time the devil tries to take you out, God is setting you up to stand taller, believe deeper, and walk stronger. Remember what Romans 8:37 (NLT) tells us: “No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.”

So when the fight feels bigger than you, remember—it’s not supposed to be won in your strength anyway. The same God who backed David, the same God who raised Jesus from the dead, is the same God who’s covering you right now. That means even in your weakest hour, you’re never fighting alone. The battle may be fierce, but the victory is guaranteed in Christ.

Every battle is either building your faith or revealing it. Don’t despise the fight—it’s training you for bigger fights and even bigger victories.

Prayer

Dear Father God,

Thank You for the battles that don’t break us but build us. Thank You for Jesus Christ, our Savior, who already secured the victory on the Cross. Teach us to stay alert, humble, and rooted in Your Word so that we don’t just fight—we overcome. Strengthen our faith to trust You when the fight feels heavy, and remind us that with You on our side, the victory is already won. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, I pray, amen.
